University Health Care to offer free flu clinics Saturday, Jan. 30th
University Health Care (UHC), a community-based health care provider in southern Maine, will offer free clinics for H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccine this Saturday, Jan. 30, at two UHC locations in Portland and Saco.
The Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC) continues to encourage people to get vaccinated against H1N1, which comes in waves and is expected to surge again. People in Maine are still being hospitalized due to H1N1 and seasonal influenza. Vaccination is the best protection before the next wave of disease.
"Now that plenty of vaccine is available, we strongly recommend everyone get vaccinated," said Dr. Dora Anne Mills, director of the Maine CDC. Christopher Pezzullo, D.O., UHC medical director, adds, "The H1N1 virus is expected to continue to circulate this year. Moreover, the Northeast is the last region of the country to experience seasonal flu, and we expect to see illness at least through February. It is not too late and, in fact, is an ideal time to get your seasonal and H1N1 vaccine if you have not already done so."
The UHC clinics are free and no appointment is required. The H1N1 vaccine is available in both flumist and injectable forms; seasonal flu vaccine is flumist. The clinics will be held at the following locations from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30:
