University of New England listed in Princeton Review’s Best 384 Colleges guide

For the fourth year in a row, the University of New England has been featured in the Princeton Review’s Best 384 Colleges guide. The publication, newly issued for 2019, is highly selective, showcasing only the top 13 percent of four-year colleges and universities in the country. It rates institutions of higher education in eight categories, including academics, admissions, quality of life, financial aid and environmental friendliness.

UNE President James Herbert expressed his delight that UNE was included in the guide again this year. “To be listed among the top colleges and universities in the country is a great honor,” he said. “Providing our students a first-rate education and a top-notch experience is always our primary goal, toward which we work diligently all year. To see that hard work recognized by the Princeton Review is extremely gratifying.”

The guide highlights UNE’s campus locations; its programs in the sciences, health professions and liberal arts; its internships and research opportunities; and its friendly community of faculty, staff and students. 

According to the university’s profile in the guide, UNE’s growth in recent years has not hampered its ability to provide intimate learning environments. The book quotes a student response stating that “the class sizes are small enough to have one-on-one interaction with your professor … .” Another student response indicates that faculty “truly care about their students and their dreams to succeed.”

Vice President of University Admissions Scott Steinberg remarked that such comments, which note the personal attention that students feel they receive at UNE, are the most rewarding aspect of inclusion in the publication. “Being listed in the guide is truly a barometer for our success as an institution,” he shared. “The fact that students view UNE as a place that puts them front-and-center tells me that we’re doing the job we set out to do, and we’re doing it extremely well.”

The Princeton Review’s Best Colleges guide has been published annually since 1992. Its editors are committed to providing a balanced representation of colleges by region, size, character and type, considering schools regardless of public/private distinction, rate of selectivity, cost, number of students enrolled or specialized fields of study.
