Kathy Davis, M.S., registrar of the University of New England, recently served as a co-presenter at a virtual conference of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Davis gave the presentation “Square Peg in a Round Hole? Adapting Systems and Processes for Professional Schools within Universities” with three other academic administrators: Celeste Fowles Nguyen, Ed.D., registrar of the Stanford University School of Medicine; Wendy Finch, M.A., registrar of the University of Arizona College of Medicine; and Martha Trujillo, M.P.A., director of financial aid at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

The presentation identified the many challenges and opportunities when providing registrar services at a professional school/college within a larger university. The presenters shared process differences and improvement approaches used when analyzing new and existing student records systems, related procedures, and business practices.

“Nothing in my past experience as a registrar prepared me for the challenges involved in overseeing a health professions school/college,” Davis reflected. “Being encouraged to co-present with Celeste, Wendy, and Martha was an amazing experience. I have learned so much from each of these women that I can directly apply to my work here at UNE.”

The AAMC leads and serves the academic medicine community to improve the health of people everywhere. Founded in 1876 and based in Washington, D.C., the AAMC is a nonprofit association dedicated to transforming health through medical education, health care, medical research, and community collaborations.
