UNE Red Cross Club hosts blood drive with News Center Maine, Red Cross of Northern New England

UNE blood drive

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.

To help meet the demand for this life-saving resource, the University of New England’s Student Red Cross Club hosted a successful blood drive on March 26 and 27, where nearly 90 percent of available appointments were booked in advance.

The event was held as part of American Red Cross Month.

Club member and blood drive organizer Alyssia Maki (Nursing, ’25) said 75 of the 84 available appointments had been filled up as of Monday night, the day before the drive.

“Our March blood drive was one of the most successful in recent years," Maki said. "Most of our appointment slots were filled by students and faculty, which speaks to the importance of our communities’ support in making the drives successful.”

The blood drive was held in partnership with NEWS CENTER Maine and the American Red Cross of Northern New England, a reflection of UNE’s mission to improve the health of people and communities in Maine, the nation, and the world.
