Dr. Chang is a native of Montgomery, AL He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with minor concentration in Japanese in 2015 and was awarded the National Society of Leadership and Success Excellence in Teaching Award at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the UAB School of Dentistry in 2019 and was awarded numerous awards and grants for his outstanding leadership, scholastic performance, and potential impact on the profession of dentistry including the UAB Sparkman Fellow for Global Health, Dentsply Sirona SCADA Award, Quintessence Award, Student Achievement Award in Endodontics, and Outstanding Achievement in Operative Dentistry. As a dental student, he found UAB’s student chapter of the Academy of General Dentistry and obtained several grants leading to the student chapter of the year award at a national level. Dr. Chang also served as the student president board member in the Alabama Academy of General Dentistry Board of Trustees and president of the Cahaba Valley Health Care junior board.

While in dental school, Dr. Chang developed immense passion for dentistry and providing smiles to patients. Working at a nonprofit free dental clinic, Dr. Chang also found a passion to give back to the community whenever he could. This influenced him to pursue a three-year specialty training in Prosthodontics at the UAB School of Dentistry where he focused on restoring and/or replacing missing teeth with emphasis on complex rehabilitative cases. Prosthodontics would also give Dr. Chang skills needed to provide further services at dental clinics designed to serve patients with little or no access to dental care. To further enrich his knowledge and skills, Dr. Chang simultaneously pursued a Master of Science in Dentistry where he evaluated various dental materials commonly used in Prosthodontics. He received the prestigious American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation Research Fellowship in 2020, which is only awarded to 5 residents per year in the United States.

During his residency, Dr. Chang served as Chief Resident and taught pre-doctoral dental students in both pre-clinical and clinical settings in the UAB School of Dentistry Comprehensive Care Clinic. To share and teach his knowledge, he founded an Instagram page dedicated to Prosthodontics with his co-resident (@the_pros_project).

Dr. Chang felt drawn to the patient-centered atmosphere and the constant pursuit of excellence with a focus on comprehensive and predictable treatment at the Prosthodontic Associates, P. A. He believes in being part of a group practice where patients receive high-quality of care from a team of highly trained and respected dentists and staff. He is currently an active member of the American Dental Association, American College of Prosthodontists, and Academy of General Dentistry.
