Dan Lavitt, D.D.S.

Dr. Dan Lavitt grew up in Kansas City, Missouri.  He attended the University of Missouri where he received his Bachelor’s degree and competed for the Tigers in Track and Field.  He became a four time Big Eight Champion, NCAA All American, and Captain of the team his senior year.  After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1980, he continued to compete in track and field for the Pacific Coast Club and the United States National Team.  In 1982, he signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs as a wide receiver where he participated with them through part of the preseason.

After being released from the Chiefs, he returned to college in preparation for dental school.  In the Fall of 1983, he began his dental education at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry where he completed his DDS degree in 1987.  That fall, he began his residency program in Endodontics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry where he received his Certificate in Endodontics in 1989.  Dr. Lavitt enjoyed private practice as an endodontist in Columbia, Missouri from 1989 to 2021.

Dr. Lavitt became a Diplomate to the American Board of Endodontics in 1994 and continues to serve on the Missouri Dental Board’s Endodontic Specialty Committee.  He is a member of the American Dental Association and The American Association of Endodontics, Past President of the Missouri Association of Endodontics, Past President of the Columbia, Missouri Dental Society and Past President of the Jefferson City, Missouri Dental Society.

Dr. Lavitt has served as an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry through the years working with undergraduate and graduate students.  He has lectured on a variety of topics in endodontics at the University of Missouri, University of Iowa, and University of Nebraska Dental Schools.  In the fall of 2019, Dr. Lavitt was invited by Planmeca to conduct a webinar for their national sales team on CBCT as it relates to the clinical practice of endodontics.  In February of 2020, Dr. Lavitt lectured with Kennedy Seminars on their Australia/New Zealand tour. 

Dr. Lavitt has been inducted into the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame and the Missouri State Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame.  Though not current, Dr. Lavitt was active in aviation in the past and is certified for Private, and Commercial with Single Engine Land, Multi-Engine, and Instrument ratings.

Dr. Lavitt and his wife, Catherine, recently moved to Boothbay, Maine in the Spring of 2022 where he currently resides.  Dr. Lavitt has a passion for the specialty of endodontics, is committed to excellence, effort and work ethic.  He values the views and opinions of others and is passionate about sharing knowledge and information with fellow colleagues.  With a passion for teaching and coaching young colleagues, he looks forward to helping guide the successful future of our profession.
