Lisa DiFedele, MPH

Lisa received her MPH in microbial disease epidemiology from Yale School of Public Health.  Prior to her MPH, Lisa obtained a BA from University of Colorado Boulder where she dual majored in Molecular Biology and Anthropology.  Her MPH thesis, which won the Dean's Prize, included field work in Peru and was entitled:  Immune Responses to Hookworm Infection.  She spent many years at Yale Medical School in research labs studying first immunology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and then immunology of hookworm infections.  She spearheaded her lab's field work in Guatemala, creating and supervising in El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, and Uganda on public health and parasite projects focusing on intestinal helminthes and malaria.  She worked as a Field Epidemiologist at the Maine Center for Disease Control where she provided infectious disease consultation, and investigated and disseminated control measures on over 70 reportable diseases.  As well as being a UNE adjunct faculty member, she is on the faculty at Rutger’s Public Health School.  At Rutgers, she is an instructor and a Regional Epidemiology Coordinator with the New Jersey Department of Health.

Lisa lives in Pennsylvania with her adorable dog.  She enjoys all the outdoor activities and is an avid sailor and skier.

Current research

Disease interventions in underserved groups including the homeless and refugee populations.  Zoonotic disease control and surveillance.  Integration of One Health Concepts into local surveillance.
