Every year, UNE hosts a free health career explorations camp for high school students from rural or underserved communities to participate in hands-on activities to learn about various careers in health care. In addition, they learn about the college admissions process.

During the camp, students learn about careers in:

  • Dental Hygiene
  • Medicine
  • Nursing
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Public Health

Students also participate in activities to learn about human genetics.

No Cost

There is no cost for accepted students to attend this camp, which is funded by the University of New England, Maine AHEC Network, the Office of Minority Health, the Finance Authority of Maine, and the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Application Process

Applications are accepted from students in Maine who will be entering grades 10–12 in the fall of 2022.  

The dates and information on how to apply for the summer 2022 camp will be announced here in April 2022. 

COVID-19 Safety Precautions

Due to COVID-19, special safety precautions will be used in running this summer camp. The camp will follow the Maine CDC's and UNE's policies to ensure the safety of participating professional staff and students. Full details on safety precautions will be shared with students who are accepted into the camp.
