Angela Shambarger, UNE’s Title IX coordinator, was recently chosen as the recipient of the Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine (SARSSM) 2018 Education Award.

The award is given annually to a person or group who supports SARSSM’s message of sexual violence prevention and who esteems the organization’s values.

“I am so honored to receive this award for the work we are doing at UNE,” said Shambarger. “I feel privileged to work at a place committed to educating its students on how to be agents of change.”

As Title IX coordinator, Shambarger is responsible for the University’s compliance under Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, providing awareness and prevention programming for students, faculty and staff and responding to concerns and complaints involving gender equity issues, harassment and sexual and relationship violence.

In May of 2018, Shambarger was named a Young Adult Abuse Prevention Program Ally of the Year by the domestic violence resource center Through These Doors (formerly Family Crisis Services).
