In Memoriam: UNE graduate Heather Bouchard

The University of New England community is saddened to learn of the death of UNE graduate Heather Bouchard last evening from injuries she sustained in a car accident earlier in the day.

Heather graduated from UNE in May 2005 with double majors in medical biology/health sciences and psychology.  She was a dean's list student who was active in the College Community Mentoring Program, and provided academic, emotional and social support to local school children.  In 2005, Heather was recognized for her accomplishments with inclusion in the national Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.  After completing her undergraduate degrees, Heather enrolled in several graduate courses at UNE.

President Danielle Ripich states, "We offer our deepest sympathies to Heather's family and friends.  She was a dedicated student and caring young woman, and her loss is deeply felt by our community."

Dr. Maryann Corsello, psychology department chair and Heather's academic advisor, adds, "Heather was a passionate, insightful and perceptive individual who had incredible energy for everything she did.  She added her psychology major in her junior year when she became interested in becoming a child psychologist.  Heather lived life to the fullest and had a special talent for working with children.  We are deeply saddened by her loss and our compassion goes out to her family and friends.  She will be greatly missed by us all."

Heather is survived by her parents, Eric and Judy Bouchard of Madawaska, Maine.

UNE's Counseling Services is offering grief counseling to any students and friends who need assistance coping with this loss.
