The most important task for a second-year student is to make sure you are finalizing your academic plan at UNE. If you are questioning or wondering about your major, adding a minor, career direction, study abroad opportunities, etc., your professional academic advisor is here to help. We have knowledge of all the undergraduate curriculum and involvement opportunities at the UNE and can guide you through this inquiry at any stage of your second year.
Meeting with your professional academic advisor
As a second-year student, you will continue to meet with your professional academic advisor at least once a semester to discuss your courses for the upcoming semester. We will continue to reach out to you if we are notified of any academic difficulties and are available for any other questions throughout this academic year.
In your second year your advisor will help you with:
- Finalizing and changing your academic direction
- Connecting you with faculty and Career Services to support your future career objectives
- Plan and prepare you for your global education experiences
- Evaluate your academic progress towards graduation
Faculty Mentors are faculty members, typically from the department or program of the student’s academic major, who act as a valuable source of information and academic and career support to all first- and second-year students. The faculty mentor typically becomes the student’s primary advisor during the third and fourth and years of study.
Peer Advisors are current students who work with the Academic Advising Center to develop and present programming and be a resource that is helpful to second-year students as they continue on with their academics at UNE. This program enriches your advising experience by offering a different, but complimentary point of view from the faculty/professional advisor’s perspective.
