A Healthcare Education Hub for New England

The University of New England’s Portland Campus for the Health Sciences is the center of healthcare education in northern New England.

By bringing together future physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, public health experts, and other providers on one campus, UNE fosters an interprofessional learning community. This collaborative environment empowers the next generation of healthcare leaders through teamwork, innovation, and real-world training.

The Portland Campus enables UNE to address critical healthcare disparities across the region by producing health professionals with best-in-class skills — improving patient outcomes through team-based care, building expertise with new and emerging technologies, and expanding our focus on cross-cultural competencies.

The Future of Healthcare is Interprofessional

UNE’s interprofessional healthcare education model places students from different disciplines together to learn with, from, and about each other. You’ll build communication and teamwork skills while developing a better understanding of each profession’s role and expertise.

UNE’s Portland Campus provides interprofessional learning opportunities for these programs:

Opportunities for Interprofessional Collaboration and Service

Through immersive, interprofessional opportunities, you’ll build vital skills in communication, problem-solving, and professional collaboration to strengthen patient care. UNE students can earn an Interprofessional Education Honors Distinction by participating in activities organized by the Center to Advance Interprofessional Education and Practice (CAIEP).

As a student on the Portland Campus for the Health Sciences, you’ll also have the opportunity to participate in community-based service learning events each semester. Our Service Learning Program helps students in every field find partnerships and activities to engage in meaningful and mutually beneficial service activities in various community settings.

One of the things I value most about UNE is the opportunity to engage in interprofessional experiences… These experiences allow me to interact and collaborate with individuals from a variety of programs, helping to expand both personal and professional perspectives.” — Hannah LoVerdi (Occupational Therapy, ’27)
