Since 1991 the faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences has defined environmental awareness as a major theme in the College's Core Curriculum, and asked the Environmental Studies program to deliver the course Introduction to Environmental Issues to all undergraduates regardless of major. The UNE College of Arts and Sciences is one (1) of the few in the nation that requires formal instruction in Environmental Studies as a requirement for graduation.
