The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine regularly hosts a number of events to celebrate and educate our students, alumni, and faculty. These events not only convey our enduring traditions, but highlight educational and mentoring opportunities, feature scholarly achievements, build everlasting communities, and emphasize the pride of our members for their college of osteopathic medicine.
OsteoBlast! and Orientation
UNE COM invites prospective students to campus in the spring for OsteoBlast! to obtain a better understanding of the COM academic program and take-in the beautiful campus. We welcome back the incoming class at the end of June for Orientation in order to prepare for the start of the academic year.
The Office of Recruitment, Student and Alumni Services organizes networking events and opportunities for you during your first- and second-year while you begin to figure out what specialties you may want to pursue in residency.
Speed Networking connects you with alumni and local physicians of various specialties to ask practicing physicians questions face-to-face.
The COM Mentoring Program connects you with alumni mentors to act as an additional resource throughout your medical education.
Check the COM events calendar for upcoming networking events.
White Coat Ceremony
The White Coat Ceremony celebrates your transition to a medical student. The significance of the event is in your symbolic coating by a D.O. physician. The white coats are the exact ones you will use when you begin your rotations and contain the D.O. seal for UNE COM. Families and friends witness the event as you take the first step into fulfilling your dream of becoming an osteopathic physician.
COM Reunion and Alumni Weekend
The COM CME Department, the Office of Recruitment, Student and Alumni Services, and the UNE COM Alumni Association organize the annual Reunion and Alumni Weekend for alumni and friends to reunite, network, and steep in the latest talks from practicing physicians and experts. Physicians earn AOA Category 1-A CME credits for each session attended, and may choose to attend all or part of the weekend. Social events take place throughout and include a Founder’s Reception and Lobster Bake.
As a fourth-year medical student, you participate in the National Resident Match Program, and the Military Match. This is when you learn where you will be completing your medical residencies, and your specialties, after graduation. Our Match Day event allows you to celebrate this momentous occasion with your family, friends, and the greater COM community.
Senior Week and Graduation/Hooding
As a candidate for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (D.O.), you attend an intimate Hooding Ceremony where you have the opportunity to walk across the stage to be hooded in front of your family and friends. The University also conducts a combined ceremony for all the colleges that typically takes place before at a separate location.
