Events

The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine regularly hosts a number of ongoing events to celebrate and educate our students, alumni, and faculty. These events not only convey our enduring traditions, but highlight educational and mentoring opportunities, feature scholarly achievements, build everlasting communities, and emphasize the pride of our members for their college of osteopathic medicine.

Match Day
Each year, fourth-year medical students are invited to participate in the Match Day event in the spring to learn where they will be completing their medical residencies, and their specialties, upon graduation. The event allows for students to celebrate this momentous occasion with their families, friends, and the greater COM Community. Students participating in the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, American Osteopathic Association, and military matches may all participate in the event, regardless of whether or not they have already learned their residency information.

Mentoring Events
The Office of Recruitment, Student & Alumni Services organizes mentoring events for first- and second-year COM students during the formative years as they begin to deduce what specialties they may want to pursue in residency.

Mentor networking connects alumni and local physicians of various specialties with COM students who have opportunity to ask questions face-to-face of practicing physicians. Mentoring dinners pair first-year COM students with the more seasoned second-year students to cultivate community and transformational leadership. Check the COM Events calendar for upcoming mentoring events.

OsteoBlast! & Orientation
UNE COM invites prospective students to campus in the spring for OsteoBlast! to obtain a better under-standing of the COM academic program and take-in the beautiful campus. We welcome back the incom-ing class at the end of June for Orientation in order to prepare them for the start of the academic year.

White Coat Ceremony
The White Coat Ceremony occurs in the fall, and celebrates the transition of the incoming class into their official role as medical students. The ceremonial significance of the event is in the symbolic coating of each first-year student onstage by their second-year COMpanion. The white coats are the exact coats they will use when they begin their rotations, and contain the D.O. seal for UNE COM. Families and friends witness the event with a mixture of pride and jubilance as their student takes the first step into fulfilling their dream of becoming an osteopathic physician.

Graduation/Hooding Ceremony
Candidates for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (D.O.) attend an intimate Hooding Cere-mony where they have the opportunity to walk across the stage to be hooded in front of their family and friends. The University also conducts a combined ceremony for all the colleges that typically takes place beforehand at a separate location.

COM Reunion and Alumni Weekend
The COM CME Department, the Office of Recruitment, Student & Alumni Services, and the UNE COM Alumni Association organize this annual event for alumni and friends to reunite, network, and steep in the latest talks from practicing physicians and experts. Physicians earn AOA Category 1-A CME credits for each session they attend, and may choose to attend all or part of the weekend. Social events take place throughout, and include a Founder’s Reception, and Lobster Bake.
