Employee Safety Training
The University of New England has established a comprehensive employee safety training program designed to meet applicable environmental health and safety regulations and University policies. The Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering health and safety training; providing informational resources; and offering compliance support to promote safe work practices and reduce risk throughout the University.
Managers, supervisors, and Principal Investigators, in coordination with EHS, are responsible for identifying positions that require specific safety training based on job duties, work environments, and applicable regulatory requirements. These roles are also responsible for ensuring that required training is completed prior to the commencement of work and maintained throughout the course of employment or appointment.
Employees are expected to actively participate in all required training and to comply with applicable UNE safety policies, procedures, and established work practices relevant to their roles and responsibilities.
UNE’s employee safety training requirements are outlined in the University of New England Training Requirements document, which identifies required training based on job function, exposure potential, and work activities.
Online Brightspace Training
UNE offers a variety of Human Resources and Environmental Health and Safety training modules powered through Brightspace. New employees are required to complete all assigned Human Resources training modules and may also be required to complete additional safety‑related training depending on their job title, responsibilities, and work location.
Online training requirements may apply to employees, work‑study students, volunteers, and other individuals working on behalf of the University. Student‑specific safety training requirements are determined and assigned by individual colleges and academic programs in coordination with Environmental Health and Safety, as applicable.
