At-home COVID-19 tests

As we continue to see significant numbers of COVID-19 cases in Maine, we would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of how to access free, at-home COVID-19 test kits. We hope that you do not hesitate to make use of these resources available to you. Stay safe, and be well.

From the Federal Government

Anyone, regardless of their insurance coverage, can order up to four free at-home rapid antigen COVID-19 tests per household from the federal government. Visit www.covidtests.gov for details and to place your order.

Through Your UNE Health Insurance

If you are enrolled in one of UNE’s medical plans, Harvard Pilgrim is covering the cost of up to eight over-the-counter, at-home COVID-19 tests per member, per month.

Here’s how it works:

  • Visit a participating pharmacy and purchase eligible COVID-19 at-home test kits with no upfront cost by showing your Harvard Pilgrim insurance card at the pharmacy counter. See a full list of eligible tests and participating pharmacies for over-the-counter, at-home testing
  • You can also pay for at-home tests out-of-pocket, print a reimbursement form (PDF), and mail it to Harvard Pilgrim with copies of receipts. The form includes instructions on how to submit for reimbursement.
  • Harvard Pilgrim will only pay for tests that are purchased after January 15 and are approved by or granted emergency use authorization by the FDA (see a full list of FDA/UEA authorized at-home tests), and are intended for individualized diagnosis or treatment of COVID-19 (not for resale) and are not for employment purposes.

In-person PCR, antigen, and antibody laboratory tests

Harvard Pilgrim continues to cover in-person PCR, antigen, and antibody laboratory testing consistent with federal and state guidance at no cost to their members.
